Best Concerts

I don't know if this has already been a topic, and I don't mean to bring JET down, but I'm more curious of what other fans are into.
So I suppose the question(s) are...
Who put on the best show at a small venue? Large venue?
Best festival? Best act at a festival or best line up?
What is your preference for a venue if you have one?

They must just LOVE fans like me.... and then hate them later when they actually show up to their shows…

Best band I've seen live are Manic Street Preachers, every time. Really great energy and the setlist is always so diverse (but having 9 albums to pick songs from helps!).
I prefer medium sized venues, not too small (sounds awful and kills your ears) and not too large.

I think the show I had the most fun at was one that I don't even remember. It was Jet on 18/12/09 but it was one that I know I had an absolutely ball at and was so happy at, funny enough I only remember how happy I was that night and only little bits and pieces like a ladies name I met and some guy falling on me. My life was perfect at that moment in time. I don't remember it because I had been bitten by a bug (3 times, it poisoned me) and was pretty much out of my tree and didn't even know it. But I have video evidence of the night so have been able to relive it.

One I have always remembered is Savage Garden in Wollongong. Loved it. There music ment so much to me at that time in life. They have some absolutely beautiful songs, Truly Madly Deeply is just poetry in motion.

One big one I remember I went to was Bon Jovi in Melb, Huge. I did like Bon Jovi but at that time in my juvenile existance I had the biggest crush on Keanu Reeves and his band Dog Star was the support. Bon Jovi was Great, love there hits, but Dogstar was a bit of a disapointment though. Actually this was the first concert I ever went to I thinks. The years are blurring together.

Before I found Jet I didn't got to many concerts, but once they came on the sceen I tried to go to as many of their concerts as possible, and now that my life permits I am free to go to as many show that I feel so enclined to go to and I am taking full advantage of this, bring it on. I am loving my new life.

How is that? Do you have a job that gets you to more gigs, or are you just that dedicated on how you spend your cash? :)

No, not in the music biz, i have dedicated this year as the year I get to do all the things I have not been able to do because I was so unwell for so long. Now that I am better than I have been in years, I have a flexable job (for once in my life, its just wonderful), I have more freedom than I have ever had thanks to a flexable work situation and better health. So now that my life if finally allowing me to live a little I am taking full advantage. Funny how people are used to me being who I was, now that I am living a bit more they are trying to stop me (people don't like change), they just care about me to much I think and worry like nothing else, but i have learnt you have to live when you can, so I am making the most of my opportunity, as I am single with nothing to tie me down. And this year is the year of seeing as many bands that I love as possible (finances permitting lol, it always comes down to money LOL!). Next year however is the year for saving to travel overseas. I have always wanted to see England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, the French Riviera, Italy, so many European places, and Canada. But that is going to take some time. I am thinking small steps. I just don't know where to start with my travels. Thats alright I have time to think about it and plan. Its just so exciting. fee

That's great to hear that Fiona, happy that you're getting to do what you want to do now you are in a much better position :) Life's too short, so you do what you want to do in life, whether travelling or seeing bands live :) I travelled to Australia in 2008 for 6 months on my own for a few reasons, but I sadly don't get to see many bands live as none of my friends are really into music :(

See, in Canada, we don't have too many festivals... well, not any 'real' ones. Australia sounds awesome for that, and for a lot of other reasons, (some I may not even be able to explain) it's my dream place to go.

If you're thinking Canada, first I'd suggest that you plan it alongside when you 'plan' on going to the States, to save for costs. Second, I don't know what you really want to see, but if your looking for a bit of history, both Quebec City and Montreal are excellent places to go; they still have some cobblestone! Very authentic, and kept up really nice. Quebec City has festivals going on all the time, while in Montreal you stand a better chance with finding someone who speaks English! A lot of people there speak "Franglish", so there are a bit less 'issues' there.

There, that's my little suggestions if you want 'em :) And I say kudos to you for making the most of your life... I think some people really don't ever learn that, but it's one of the most important! Within some boundaries of course :)

I understand what your saying John, I don't have many friends that will go to concert/shows or travel with me either. They just aren't into music or traveling like I am. Although I am hoping to visit a friend in Estoni, once she moves there (looking forward to that). Although I will miss her so much (double edged sword that one, shes my best friend). Although I do have a funny tail about a girlfriend and my trip from hell on a catamaran, it was dodgy as, we got off on the morning of the 3rd day, it was an 8 day trip. Never again will I do a trip like that. Money down the drain that trip. Strike it up to life education. Oh and just to let you know I have had the best times going to shows by myself. i used to try and drag any friend I could get to go along with me, but once I started going by myself I relised my friends were kind of a downa as they weren't having as much fun as I was and it just made me feel bad that they weren't enjoying themselves. I am a pretty shy person and I get really nervous going by myself but once your there and the music starts so does the fun and my nervousness is gone too. So good luck and enjoy as many great bands as you can. fee

Thanks for the info Alex, I am planning on learning French this year and maybe Italian next year to prepare for traveling around. But also I have always wanted to learn other languages, so this has motivate me, although I haven't started. I am kind of sick of studying at the moment. I will have to pick your brains for good places to visit when I actually get to the planning stages of my trip. I am not even at the saving stage yet. So the planning stage is a little bit to far away to even contemplate. But I am glad you mentioned about the festivals I would not have even thought to have included those into my plans. Good thinking! fee

Loving all this Manics love. I've seen them 21 times so far (30 at the end of this tour) but the best of those easily were the USA dates I saw last year, in Philadelphia, New York and Boston. They were such tiny venues and I'd become so used to seeing them in larger ones. In the UK the best place I've seen them was the 2nd night of their Roundhouse shows in 2009. Fierce.

Lady Gaga I have to admit blew me away. Her show and her singing are breathtaking.

Seen Noel Gallagher solo twice at Royal Albert Hall and can safely say he is SO much better than Oasis. The songs take on an almost magical quality and the energy and soul in his voice is stunning.

Kasabian are the only band live for me who can equal the Manics. Spectacular and visceral. The best time I saw them was in Toulouse for the intimacy of the venue and in Wembley Arena for the atmosphere and Noel Fielding appearing...

Florence & The Machine is amazing life, as are Coldplay, and of course Jet. :D

For me the best show I've ever been to was this year's concert of Muse (how obvious). And I think I don't have to explain why ;)
As regards the concert itself, I really enjoyed this year's Polish festival called Coke Live Music Festival. The stuff was chosen perfectly. Very good bands played, I especially enjoyed Muse (of course) and the Big Pink. I never heard about the Big Pink but after the concert I fell in love with them and I can't stop listening to them now :D

Similarly to Alicja...having seen Muse everyone else on my previous list pales in comparison. Muse are out of this world live. I hate to believe the hype, but I saw them at Wembley on the second night and it was the best gig of my life by a mile.
