Cester Pronunciation
Ok guys, this is an issue I need settled. I have so far heard it pronounced Cester with a 'K' sound by a fan in the London queue, as Cester with a 'S' sound in an interview with Nic himself, and Cester with a 'Ch' sound in an interview with Muse at Big Day Out. Which is right? It's doing my head in, haha! Cheers in advance, people.

Re: Cester Pronunciation
I've always thought it was pronounced "Chester" but it's certainly not got a 'K' sound to it. At all.

Re: Cester Pronunciation
Thanks, my sister reckoned it's 'Chester' too as that would fit in with the Italian etc. The amount of people I have heard pronouncing it different ways was confusing the hell out of me...

Re: Cester Pronunciation
Since I've heard Nic say "Sester" in every single interview, I'm going with that being their preference. But you may be right in the 'real' pronounciation... it happens all the time, where the original way of saying a last name is lost because of the place you live. One thing that does annoy me though, is when people actually type and spell out their last name as "Chester".

They must just LOVE fans like me.... and then hate them later when they actually show up to their shows… -
Re: Cester Pronunciation
Yeah I've seen people write it as Chester, it's silly. I think I saw that in an interview with them on Youtube a bit back.
Hannah from your display picture you look as though you're ready for a Manics gig...which makes sense as I remember you said you were a big fan
(can't wait to hear the new album and see them in October!)

Re: Cester Pronunciation
This thread hasn't helped as much as I thought it would haha, but it's nice to see other people don't know... I'll stick with the 'Chester' pronunciation and then just ask them if I catch them at stage door one day.
John, yeah, that was me before Jet and the Manics in Portugal when I got my boa stuck in my tiara. My lasting memory is of Jet being very amused by us and Nic staring in what looked like half admiration and half bewilderment ALL set. It was funny. Can't wait for the new album either! I was gonna ask you about tour dates but I'll take it to the Manics forum...

See you guys talking about the Maniacs a lot... I haven't heard of em, so would you give me an education on their sound? I'm curious now.

Erm....the Manics (Manic Street Preachers) are kind of hard to sum up in a nutshell because a lot of their albums differ so much but if I was pushed for a description I'd say: Rock-Britpop-punk-arena filling classic rock. If I were to recommend one album to you it would be 1996's award winning Everything Must Go. My favourite album by them. They're a very interesting band with a huge history but to some people they're just sadly known for a few big hits who had a member disappear forever in 1995. Hanna can add to this I'm sure :) -

Hehe, the Manics are Manic Street Preachers, from Wales. It's so pressured when someone asks you to sum the Manics up, because they've been around almost 20 years and covered so many genres! If you like I can message you a sort of 'Best of' Youtube links to some of the best songs to start with? They're an incredible and very interesting band to get into, full of raw rock 'n' roll energy and also intelligent ideas. :) They are also by far and away the best live band I have ever seen when they are on form.

That would be fantastic Hanna! Yea if you could send me some YouTube links.... I have a pretty flexible ear, but don't send me all the hits; I'd like to hear some of the fan favourites that may not have hit the radio or any major popularity.

I don't know why this made me think of 'Syrah' and 'Shiraz'... -

Hey, I sent you a mail with some of my favourites, let me know the ones you like as I can send more from which era it is. :) They are a truly remarkable band and James Dean Bradfield is the most underrated singer and lead guitarist in the world! He was voted above Jimi Hendrix in a recent NME poll yet not many people know how good he really is! Luckily most of the hits are favourites of mine but there are one or two in there that are personal favourites and ones that fans really enjoy live. The outro of Motorcycle Emptiness in particular is a master class in guitar.

Re: Cester Pronunciation
I read Cester with C but not because I think it's proper (I know it's wrong) but because I'm Polish and Polish people are lazy with reading something properly :D
