Fascination with JET - the beginning
I wonder how your fascination with JET began: where and when did you hear them for the first time, did you fall in love with them immediately or did love come later, how many times did you see JET live, etc.
OK, I'll start first. My fascination began at the beginning of this year (February or March - I don't remember exactly) when I heard "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" in a TV commercial. I checked who performs this song, then I watched some videos on YouTube and I fell in love with JET! I decided to buy their albums. Because they were available only in the capital city of Poland, the owner of a local store had to import them for me :)
I strongly hope that I'll see the guys live one day, on a concert...

RE: Fascination with JET - the beginning
I started my fasination in 2003 whaen the videos for "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" and "Cold Hard Bitch" came out. They came to San Diego and played a free show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Can't remember if it was 2003 or 2004, but I got up to the front row. I saw them twice in 2005 with Oasis and try to get to any show in LA or San Diego. I love that they play in small clubs where you can get up close. It makes the experience so much more intimate and personal.
I hope they get around to Poland some day so you can see them live! -

when I first heard "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" on the radio... The sound was so new and bold... I loved it ! (Still makes me wanna jump up and dance around when I hear it ) Then I heard other cuts from the album and saw the video's ... Awesome !!!! The video for "Look What You've Done" was so beautiful !!! It's one of my favorite video's still to this day... To me, JET is alot like The Beatles with an edge !

RE: Fascination with JET - the beginning
Unfortunately, when I was younger I didn't have the chance or exposure to their awesome music, so I only discovered them a lil while ago. BUT I will have you know I caught up on the history you could swear I was a fan since way back :)
I do wish I had even the opportunity to hear them earlier, but the exposure just wasnt really available. (odd as it seems for a big band like that) Now I especially know how to appreciate good music, and have quite the taste for these guys. The have been a big factor overall, because without hearing and loving their music (and The Hives is right up there) I would still be living in a hole of cheap pop music. Rock is quality and real, and that is one of the most important things in music I still believe. Right, sorry for the long post without really answering your question, but I started especially liking Rip It Up and other tunes slowly grew on me.

I was out partying with my friends, when my 17 years old Son comes walking in, (We have a get together every Friday night).. Yes it's the MEN'S GET SHIT FACED and pray you don't get stopped on the way home type things... So my son comes walking in We're hiding everything from his wondering eyes thinking fast, I told my son to pop in some music and none of that New type head banging crap... and at my house if you would play Rap.. I feel sorry for you..LOL.. My son popped in four or five CD in the CD player.... I'll bet you'll never guess..? Yep.. Cold Hard Bitch right in the face, It was a good up lifting song, none of that " GLUM AND DOOM " stuff. The next morning after 5 bottles of water, two aspirins and four Advil's off to get gas for the lawn mower, I'll grab that CD from the CD player before I go and rest is H I S T O R Y !!! Fast One of the Best songs on the First album "Radio Song" Same theme if plied to today's standards, one would say... A..?

I began to like Jet when I heard 'Look What You've Done' but I didn't love them yet. I didn't like 'Are You Gonna Be My Girl' which is crazy because I love it now. I got their first album 4 years after it was released for their song 'Rollover DJ' which I loved a lot. After listening to Get Born about 2 times I became obsessed with every song on the album. I began to try and learn all of their songs on the guitar and I bought Shine On just last year. I bought Shaka Rock the day it was released. Now I love them.

Hey we got some similarities! Yea, I'd have to say, Are You Gonna Be My Girl just wasn't the first to impress me, I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it first. I think mainly, the view on the band (since I didn't have much of an idea of who wrote the song before) changed, and I understood it a little differently then just some ordinary pop song that is their only piece of good work. NOT TRUE HERE!!

LWYD got loads of airplay here and I bought Get Born without getting the connection that JET were the band that sang the song, just heard the name JET thrown about and thought i'd buy it and see what they were like. Great find! Bought Shine On early 2007 but nearly didn't - because of the huge gap between the two albums and the fact that I liked Get Born a lot and played it in the car a lot I thought maybe Shine On wouldn't be so good and bought it on the basis that I heard PYMWYMI on the radio and recognised it instantly as JET. PYMWYMI is probably my favourite song of theirs. And Shine On my favourite cd.
The real fascination/obsession was after going to their show in March 2007 when they played in London and I admit although I had both albums I still didn't who was who, I didn't know that Nic and Chris were brothers, and I couldn't even say who played what instrument in the band. The music speaks for itself.
Sounds so dumb considering I now love these guys so very very much. I've seen them three times in 2 years and I cannot wait to see them again. -
RE: Fascination with JET - the beginning
I was heavily into totally explicit r'n'b rap (I know what a loser) because that’s what my friends were into and I hated anything else, until I simultaneously changed friendship groups and heard 'Look What You've Done' (I hated 'Are You Gonna Be My Girl' when it first came out). So since then their music introduced me to a whole lot of other rock music, they actually did this special on MTV with their top 10 song picks and I heard 'Hello Goodbye' by the Beatles and since then have become a huge fan of the Beatles as well. So I'll always be a huge fan of theirs because I attribute gaining my independence and individuality to listening to their music :D
And I've seen them 4 times live, would be more if they were in Australia more. -
RE: Fascination with JET - the beginning
They're really making up for that now!!! They are in Australia often enough now thats for sure!

My fascination began on the 29th June 2004 at the Rock In Rio festival in Lisbon Portugal.Jet were on before Ben Harper and Peter Gabriel and they rocked the small crowd that had assembled, also they were loud as hell too. After my Holiday i returned to the UK and bought Get Born and since then i've loved 'em.
