Jet Assignment - Wow.
I'm working on getting into college, and am writing an assignment on JET, as just recently have descovered their true amazing talent. You guys on here probably have a lot more knowledge than me on JET, and wondered if you guys could assist me?
Mainly, why are JET in the industry? What's in it for them? - Money? Fame? Policits? Pure entertainment? or is it on much deeper level than that?
Also, did their geographical location (Australia) have anything to do with their success?
And finally, who benefits from JET? Themselves? Media? or us?
If anyone could help me in these issues I would be grateful. This essay means a lot to me and I want to make it amazing.
Thanks

RE: Jet Assignment - Wow.
From what I understand, they got into this industry by half chance, half hopes.
I don't think many of them had exactly 'ace jobs', and they all had an obvious passion for music.
So not fame or politics, thats usually eliminated pretty fast, although they have balanced out the fame part than previously.
Australia tends to be more isolated, so it takes a bit to break outta there, so if you mean by promoting their success... probably not worldwide, but within Oz, hell yes! As been mentioned by them, their smaller stage scene is a lil bigger than typical American cities.
Who benefits from JET... I think all three...
All of us I think is obvious, they are feeding their souls by making the music (while dealing with the surroundings of it as a result of the career choice that may not be so soul feeding) and media sorta in the old days if you call it.
I hope that gives a bit of insight. If you have any more specific questions or anything really at all related to this, ask away!

RE: Jet Assignment - Wow.
Ok so here's some quotes from Guitar World Nov. 2004 issue interview of Cam and Nic
Interview by Joe Bosso: "Once Melbourne got an earful of the band, things fell into place quickly...bringing a steady stream of A&R men Down Under to find the Next Big Thing. Jet found themselves in the enviable position of choosing between several labels thrusting contracts in their faces. Electra won out...
Nic: "I'll tell you what , here's the deal: We knew we had to come up with something strong, something big. We kept asking ourselves, "How the f*** do we get people to pay attention? How the f*** do we get an audience?" So we thought, Okay, we gotta write a song that gets the girls dancing, because as we all know, if you can get the girls, the guys will follow in a heartbeat. Getting that swing, that soul, was really important" (refering to Are You Gonna Be My Girl)
Nic: "Being a real musician and having a real band, it's not about instant glory. If you wanna be in a band, a real band, it's because you can't picture yourself doing anything eles. I play guitar and I write songs. It ain't because I need to be famous or seeing myself on TV."
Cam: Regarding Melbourne "It's got a strong pub culture. Kids go out most every night and they wanna hear bands. When we first started getting gigs it seemed as if everybody just got f***ing fed up with hearing cover bands, so we were right there at the right time."
Hope that helps, good luck on your paper! -

Well it's about 5 pages long, it's a bit too long for me to type out.
