Done stage door tonnes of times for different bands and met some amazing people (Jay Mehler and Tommy from Kasabian are total darlings and the Manic Street Preachers are awesome guys too). It's great. A lot of the friends I tour with and I have a strict policy of not bothering anyone before the gig though, as they usually just want to potter around, do a bit of shopping and soundcheck. After it's a free for all though.

A few of us went for stage door at Jet's Shepherds Bush gig, and after about ten minutes a security guy was sent out saying, 'Guys, we just want you to know that there is an aftershow party so if you're going to wait the guys aren't going to be out until about half midnight'. It was a really nice gesture, as often you can wait and be let down with no one from the band or venue bothering to tell you what's going on. That way we all knew not to bother and caught our last trains. So even though we didn't meet them, I still think they've got nice people around them to let us know. Saw Nic a couple of times wandering past before the gig but he was carrying shopping bags and it's never nice to stop them when they're 'off-duty' so to speak.

You're right about not stopping them on the street. Though I have to say that it might depend on the place. I think nobody would recognize them here in the U.S., as they aren't popular anymore and were never really that big of a hit here. I believe they'd like to be recognized at least over here, but stopped and asked for autographs and all? Yeah, it's not nice to hassle them.

I did see their tour bus pull up to the venue when they played here in April. I always tend to not want to bother the bands unless they are openly interested in seeing fans...as in, having a meet and greet, or allowing fans backstage after the show. Though since they came out for the encore with beer bottles and glasses of wine, I suspect that perhaps they wouldn't care at that point.
