A Noteworthy Day in Rock n' Roll
111 years ago on this very day (March 18), a man named George Beauchamp was born. But who is this guy? Why should we give a damn? Well, if it wasn't for him, we wouldn't have the electric guitar.
In the 1920s Beauchamp explored the idea of electrified string instruments and in 1931 he invented the electrically amplified guitar. Though other innovators such as Les Paul contributed to the development of electric guitars, George Beauchamp was the first to officially patent and produce the instrument.
This spectacular invention revolutionized music with its powerful and alluring sound. It has been used by innumerable musicians (including our beloved Jet) to create the melodies that captivate us all and surge us with near indescribable thrills.
So to George Beauchamp I say thank you and happy birthday!
