Shaka Rock – Review on Music-City.Org “Plenty of Shaka for this Rock Album”

With the release of their third studio album, Shaka Rock, JET heads into greater depths to expand their musical repertoire. Far from the gritty pub rock glory days of Get Born, and the melancholic haze of Shine On, Shaka Rock delivers a fresh start for a band redefining itself as unbound to any one label. With beats such as 'Beat on Repeat', 'Seventeen', 'Walk', 'La Di Da', 'Times Like This' and 'She Holds a Grudge', the band stretches out into an alternative sound while still clutching onto its more primitve rock roots. Fans of Get Born and pub rock are served up 'Start the Show', 'Black Hearts (On Fire)', 'K.I.A. (Killed in Action)' and 'She's a Genius', the lead single off the new album, which coincidentally does a better job of following Get Born's 'Are You Gonna Be My Girl' than Shine On's 'Put Your Money where your Mouth Is' did. Fans of the more mellow Shine On and Get Born's ballads are given 'She Holds a Grudge', which serves to firmly establishes JET as a 3 vocalist piece band. All in all, JET retains their rock sound while yet again expanding their musical repertoire, trading in the highs and lows of a near decade musical career for much needed and much earned credibility, regardless of fame, fortune, and mainstream appeal.

Shine On- Review on Music-City.Org ”JET Delves into Darkness”

Shine On is an album that takes one into the chaos of a band jaded by fame and tortured by personal loss. Reminiscent of the Beatle's transcendental period and has echoes of Pink Floyd, the band expands their trusty pub rock repertoire by delving into the obscure, ugly, and painful. Even with such upbeat songs like Holiday, Put your Money where your Mouth is, That's all Lies, and Rip it Up, the album screams of frustration, pain, and anger at the price of fame, and the need to regain composure, innocence, and ultimately seek redemption. Eleanor, Shine On, and Kings Horses are songs that haunt the very soul of the listener to an era that escapes our understanding while clenches our hearts. The band, having spent much time on tour with bands such as Oasis, has aptly applied the lessons of rock and roll and the complexities of humanity (joy, pain). While perhaps not as commercial as their first stellar album, Get Born, the growth demonstrated in the artistic ability of the band is an encouraging sign for the music this band will undoubtedly put forth in the future.

Get Born- Review on Music-City.Org “New Kids in a Town called Rock and Roll”

JET is a band that does not escape the blessing or curse of rock and roll, that is, there is nothing new under the sun, otherwise it ain't rock and roll. In their debut album this band strives to embrace the blessings of staying true to the tried and true, with some innovation though minimal, and curses the listener with the insatiable need to listen to these songs over and over again. The album stands out and delivers the band onto a world stage hungry and grasping back at the roots of rock and roll, and the bands songs, raw and simple, drag you to those very roots and have you stay there for the length of the album. Songs like 'Are you Going to Be My Girl' and 'Cold Hard B*tch' will have been cornerstones to the commercial success this band no doubt has enjoyed, ahd will continue to enjoy for years to come. However, songs like 'Take it Or Leave It', 'Get me Outta Here', and 'Last Chance' are the songs that could very well be three parts to the same rock and roll induced frenetic panic attack. Songs such as 'Timothy', 'Radio Song', and 'Lazy Gun' show one other directions the band may lean towards, as they approximate a Pink Floyd sound. While ballads 'Move On' and 'Look What You've Done' serve to make this band as rounded as they come. Overall a superb debut. To those critics that will say the band simply rips off other bands, please remember that rock and roll recycles the same angst, power, and ideas from generation to generation. Frankly, JET poises itself with its debut album to speak to a new generation, with a sound other generations have long been listening to. Open your ears and Get Born.
